Martock Annual Parish Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended the Annual Parish Meeting on 14th May.

Topics covered at the meeting included the Community Plan Consultation, Environmental Issues, Martock Youth Centre, the Neighborhood Plan and an update from our Neighbourhood Policing Team. Martock Parish Council was also delighted to be able to award Community Grants to the Bower Hinton Allotment Association and the Youth Adventure Trust.

The 2024-25 Annual Report, showcases a year of progress and community resilience despite ongoing challenges at county level. With a renewed focus on modernisation, community support, and volunteer engagement, the Council is laying the groundwork for a stronger future.

“This year has been about fixing and rebuilding, ensuring we have the right team, infrastructure, and support systems in place,” said John Hole, Chair of Martock Parish Council. “We are now seeing the green shoots of positive change, thanks to the hard work of our staff, councillors, and volunteers. The strength of Martock lies in its people. Together, we are building a parish we can all be proud of”.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • Operational Efficiency: CEO Natalie Fortt has led the drive to modernise council operations, implementing new policies, digital systems, and supporting Council to develop a strategic three-year plan.
  • Community Services: Initiatives like the Job Club, Wellbeing Walks, and Befriending Schemes continue to combat isolation and support vulnerable residents.
  • Youth Engagement: Young people have participated in a variety of community projects, from environmental awareness to volunteering at local events.
  • Thriving Clubs & Sports: Martock’s sports clubs and societies are flourishing, with the Rugby Club’s near-promotion season and the Youth Football Club doubling its membership.
  • Volunteer Recognition: Groups like the Flood Response Team and footpath volunteers were celebrated for their vital contributions.
  • Financial Stewardship: The Council set a 2025-26 budget of £594,098, funded primarily by a precept of £514,523 and other local income.

Looking ahead, Martock Parish Council is committed to improving communications and enhancing community facilities. Popular events such as the annual fireworks night and the upcoming Village Fete promise to bring the community together once more.
