To All Parishioners, Staff and Members of Martock Parish Council
Another Interesting week in Martock.
Firstly, congratulations to all 10 of the members of the village who will be duly elected on May 5th. It is slightly disappointing that we have five vacancies which will have to be filled through co-option as soon as feasible. It is great to see new names and a cross section of the community including people born and bred in the village.
Personally, I have been disappointed with the various arguments taking place on social media and hope they will end now that we have a new council, although I suspect it will continue until after the county elections.
I am particularly interested in the comments from people outside the village, I didn’t know Martock was so interesting. Other comments that come from proposers and seconders of candidates for County elections are clearly politically motivated and actually the quoted facts are simply not true, but we wouldn’t want the truth to get in the way of a good story.
There are a number of questions to be asked but they are not limited to the last 8 months or so, the council is looking forward and hopefully some, if not all, issues will be resolved for the new council to move forward in May.
The Council is not corrupt and if anyone feels it is please report us to the police. I have not found evidence to warrant us using public funds to investigate a confidential meeting at which nobody voted against the decision despite comments to the contrary.
Some good news, the council ratified the appointment of a new clerk on Tuesday, so we are getting back to full staffing levels.
I am happy to speak with anyone, but this will not be done on Facebook. I am looking forward to working with the new councillors for the benefit of the villages. Please give them time to settle in.
Thanks for your patience
John Hole
