Council Members

Cllr. Paul Helyer

Chair of the Planning & Highways Committee

I’ve lived in Martock since 1988.  I’m married with 3 grown up children and 2 grandchildren.

I retired in 2019 having worked in the Defence and Aerospace industries as a Reliability Engineer, Software Engineer, Quality Assurance Manager and System Safety Engineering Consultant.

Since moving to Martock I’ve been involved with the Scouts (Secretary and Treasurer of Martock Scout Group in 1995 then Group Scout Leader of 1st Fosseway Scout Group until 2000); and the Martock Primary School Parent Teacher Association (Treasurer 2002 to 2004).  I joined Martock Parish Council in 2020 (during lockdown) and have been Chair of the Planning Committee since 2021.

My main pastime is walking. I’m assistant to the Parish Paths Liaison Officer – we keep an eye on the footpaths throughout the parish, I lead the Martock Hares monthly fitness walk, and I’m a member of the Martock and surrounding Areas Photo Walking Group.

I also play bridge, pool and the odd frame of snooker.

I’m a member of the Liberal Democrat Party but my involvement is limited to delivering the occasional leaflet.
