Support for Seniors

Support for Seniors

The Seniors Support Coordinator, Caroline Bennett, is employed by Martock Parish Council as part of the Martock Community Team. This role is to assist Martock Parish senior residents to access services; address issues of social isolation, and to enable and support seniors at home.

Good Neighbour Befriending Scheme

Do you or someone you know feel isolated or lonely?

There are many reasons why someone may feel isolated or lonely and it can sometimes be difficult to admit.  A volunteer befriender who is thoughtfully matched offers regular time and companionship:

  • A home visit for a cup of tea and a chat
  • A friendly face to accompany you to a local group or activity
  • Someone to share a hobby with or to start a new one
  • A friendly telephone call

Might you like to volunteer as a befriender, if you have a couple of hours to spare, are an active listener and enjoy the company of others?

Martock Friends Group

A fun and friendly group for seniors who come together for companionship, lunch and to enjoy a varied programme of activities.

Thursdays from 10.30-1.30pm at Martock Parish Hall,

£6 to include lunch or £1 to just stay for the morning.

A locally made meal is available, booking a week in advance or you are welcome to bring your own packed lunch.

Jigsaw Puzzle Bank

A free library of jigsaw puzzles for all to enjoy at home and then exchange for a new one.

Puzzle bank open 1st Thursday of the month, Martock Parish Hall at 10.30am

Care Support at home

If you are finding your health limiting your independence and would like some help at home, a carer might be able to assist you – carers can support with numerous tasks that are tailored to your requirements.

Merry Martock 29th December 2023

A free annual community event supported by Martock Parish Council to address isolation over the festive period. We recognise it can be difficult when regular groups and support networks stop, and family commitments change – Merry Martock offers good company and delicious refreshments.
