Environmental Improvement Works – Martock

Wessex Water is preparing to begin a major programme of improvements at Martock Water Recycling Centre (WRC), off Hinton Meads Drove to the west of the village.

This is a major investment of more than £7.5 million to ensure the site continues to keep pace with our regulated water industry obligations and ensures the quality of the treated wastewater continues to meet the highest standard, improving water quality and the environment.

Among the improvements being made will be enhanced measures for the removal of phosphorus from wastewater during the treatment process and enhanced slude storage facilities before the water is returned safely to the environment, as well as upgrading existing equipment on site.

This work, which will also include adding new infrastructure on site, will start in November 2023 and continue for around 12 months.

How will the work affect you?

All of this work will take place within our existing site boundary. However, during construction, you may notice increased traffic between the A303 Stoke Sub Hamdon/Martock junction, Stoke Street, Water Street (B13165) to the water recycling centre off Hinton Mead Drove as our construction staff commute to work and deliveries of materials take place to and from the site. Access to the centre for our site traffic via any other routes will be prohibited.

You can continue to use your water and sewerage services as normal unless we tell you otherwise.
